Hughes Exterminators offers tips for homeowners to avoid stinging insects and their painful stings this summer

- Cut back or get rid of unnecessary vegetation around your home where pests can breed or nest.
- Keep windows and doors properly screened and trashcans covered and sealed.
- As wasps are attracted to sweets, do not leave drinks or food in accessible areas.
- If approached by a stinging insect, remain calm and quiet. Avoid swaying or swinging, as this may provoke an attack.
- When outdoors, wear shoes, especially in grassy areas.
- When dining outside, keep food covered until ready to eat.
- Avoid wearing sweet-smelling perfumes or colognes when spending time outside.
