Hughes Exterminators, a leading pest and termite control company, today announced the launch of its new industry-leading sustainability initiative – the STEPS™ Total Protection System. Short for Sustainability Through Environmental Practices and Solutions, STEPS is a company-wide commitment to provide homes and businesses property protection using the most effective and environmentally-responsible methods available today.

STEPS is a straightforward three-step process that utilizes Integrated Pest Management, or IPM—widely accepted as the most environmentally-responsible approach to pest control today:
- Fully Inspect home and property to pinpoint pest issues
- Identify not only the pest, but the true cause of the problem
- Treat in the most environmentally responsible way to alleviate current issues and help prevent any future recurrence

STEPS has been incorporated into every aspect of Hughes’ services to go Beyond the Call to protect families, homes, property and now the planet and will immediately be introduced to Hughes’ customer base.
To fulfill Hughes’ commitment to sustainability, the company is evaluating every facet of how it does business and making adjustments to operate in a sustainable manner wherever possible, such as recycling, reduction of paper usage, office energy conservation and efficient fleet management. To build on the momentum created around the sustainability movement, Hughes has instituted “Sustainability Captains” in each service center so employees will have ownership of the program and contribute to its overall success.
At Hughes, sustainability extends beyond the environment and also includes social and economic impacts, by supporting local charities through leadership and financial contributions and being active members of the communities where Hughes employees work and live.
